Logo is an identity. Not just names but also the character of products. Character and identity of a product can be seen from the form of a logo. Even at this time the logo can be a confidence, pride and symbol of togetherness.

See how the "Harley Davidson" with the pride install the Harley Davidson logo on each attribute when they ride in a group on the road. The same group of "fans" Iwan Fals logo with "Oi" and the group of fans with the symbol Slank butterfly.

Means that the logo can be a "spirit" of a product.

Imagine what happens when a product with high quality and very useful for the community but does not have a logo. This means the identity of the product name is just a "generic".

How public perception of the product?

"... Cheap product. Not qualified. Ordinary and even considered just doubt the quality of the product .... "

This is the reality going on in the community. Therefore, designing a logo is not frivolous work, not work play.

Logo design needed knowledge and expertise.

First, the knowledge of the design.

Means of a graphic designer should take the form of design elements, color and typography. And also have the insight about the meaning of a symbol, shape and color.

Second, the skill to use graphic design software such as Macromedia Freehand or Adobe Illustrator.

Logo must have charm, and unique character namely:

CATCHING eye.
Color, shape and logo are typography nice views and easy to read.

Unique.
This means the different forms of the existing logo. Unique does not mean strange shapes. So make the logo easily seen and read. Example: Unilever logo, unique and interesting is also still easy to see and read. The identity of "U" remain clear.

Have Character.
In accordance with the type of products. Logo of different food products with the logo terknologi product. For example, the logo "Nokia" has a different character with the logo "Indofood". Logo magazine "Hai" logo (teenager magazine) is different with the magazine "Ayahbunda" (Parents magazine).

Apart from the above theory of the strength of a logo does not factor irrespective of marketing strategies and product promotions.

GRAPHIC DESIGNER VS ART DIRECTOR

Do you see a job ad with the heading: "Urgently needed a graphic designer and art director!" I'm sure you never see it but for those who work as a graphic designer or art director on this industry.

So what should be a graphic designer and art director? The second professional background has the same skill. What distinguishes?

Based on what I observed and my own experience. In fact the two professions are different. Although the ability of their skill may be the same such as the ability to use computer software to design like Macromedia Freehand, Adobe illustrator or Adobe Photoshop and have a good visual ability.

But what the basic differences of those professions are perspective and knowledge.

A graphic designer working on the design more likely to be artificial, creating a visual that is good and interesting shapes, colors, photography, illustration, typography and lay out. And how these elements create a visual communication materials that can represent a product or a brand.

The material is usually a graphic designer can be the same with an art director but the "job description" in an advertising graphic designer a lot more likely to do the design print design books such as the annual report or company profile, logo, magazine, newsletter, brochures, posters, Flyer, and so forth. Therefore, graphic designer entered in the division "desktop publishing".

Or a graphic designer in the same team with the art director, but tend to only do the design as above plus the "Final Art work" and help work art director. Due to the structural one in an advertising graphic designer under the art director.

What are the capabilities of art director?

According to me is the insight and knowledge to visualize the strategy or creative communication strategies. An art director is ideal and should be able to know for whom the ad is created and how the visual character to the right target market is. The execution of art director know exactly how to visualize the concept.

This is Hanamasa print ad. Before we create the idea, we "the team" eat together at Hanamasa to experience the food and the ambience.

What we get and feel was written to the concept.
The tagline is " Banyak kisah di...Hanamasa" was the result. But, more the concept just the concept, is not printed.

I create this print ad at Dipra advertising in 2003 to promote Chitato promo. The consumer send the Chitato empty pack to get the prize 10 million (it's only a suggestion). I name it "Chitato Daur Uang". The copy in Indonesian below:

Myldi baby diapers

Myldi is a baby diapers with the market in Europe, and the client said it's good demand in that country. So I create a copy on the above of the ad "Terbaik di Europe, kini di Indonesia" (Best in Europe, Now in Indonesia).

The unique point of Myldi are "Soft and can accomodate more baby urine".

While finding what is the right tagline for Myldi, I imagine the baby on mother's hug and what I thought is the mother protects her baby with care and softness. Through this imagination I create the tagline "Lembut dan melindungi" (soft and protect).

Not all the ad series I put here. The first and the second ad placed on magazine. The 3rd and 4th ad "unfortunately" are not printed. I don't know the matter.

It's a new material promotion of tea from SAP I suggested. There are 3 designs we presented to clients. But unfortunately, at the time client didn't prepare yet for the promotion material. They said, they still thought about more effective promotion than just a poster or other advertising materials. They thought about creating brand activation such as event programs. So, this design below are still the concept.

This brochure I made for Albatros exhibition in PRJ (Jakarta Fair exhibition) to promoting the furniture product and promotion program with special gifts. Albatros is one of the Olympic group. Different witn Olympic, Albatros has different market, the price is more expensive than Olympic.

At that time, photographer and me try some angles for Wavin products. One of the angle which I used for this lebaran ad was not taken. So, I thought that, why I didn't use that angle for lebaran ad, look good and fit for a masjid miniature.

The prints of McDonald previously always used red as a background and not so creative in graphic design and communication. Since McDonald was held by Hotline there were many changes in marketing communication and art work. So, what we saw at the time, McDonald was very popular and draw much more visitors to its vendors than its competitors.

I made this McDonald print ads when I work at Hotline Advertising. At that time, The jobs from McDonald were so many so the jobs were divided into some groups. What I post here are some of I'd done.

Tropical Secret is the brand of VCO (Virgin Coconut Oil) a healthy supplement. What I thought about the idea is the name of the brand itself. Tropical secret means discovering the secret of healthy treatment from tropical nature that is coconut tree. It's really a very simple idea. After I got the first ad, I need to make the result message so I put the beautiful girl image on the print ad. Actually, I also made the ad series but I don't put here.

Frankly speaking, the copy of this flyer is too crude. But that's what we don't expected as a creative person. Sometimes, we have to follow the marketing strategy as the client said. They need this flyer to support their sales people to promote the product, So make it simple and easy for people to draw the message.

The product claim that it can avoid your body from cancer disease by clean up your rough food before you cook it such as chicken, fruits, vegetable and many other foods with Ozonizer. By Ozonizer all the grease, virus, bacteria, and other diseases sources will be got rid off. The foods is free from that source of diseases. Believe it or not but that's it the Ozonizer...

Sports physically in fact will never be replaced or there is no alternative. However, for an ad tool I have to communicate health benefits of these products.

The Key advertising is "Sumo foot theraphy as an alternative / substitute sport" that is intended for people who are so busy and not had time to exercise. Therefore, the image of man who put on a suit but is always ready to exercise. This means that even if busy, sports can be done at any time using the product Sumo theraphy foot.

Some of bodycopy I made in this ad: "...If you do not have time to exercise, use the Advance Sumo Foot theraphy HS 8805, the latest technology as the "alternative berolahraga ".

Ten: How slim are you

This print ad I did around 2005, when work on the iPower Advertising. Client of this product is Advance, one of the health equipment distributor in Indonesia, which is quite known.

Image display with a slim and sexy body of a woman (of course within the limits of the norm in Indonesia) this ad may represent the product benefit stimulate blood flow and nerve so that the fat in the body will gone away well (hopefully this is correct and may still have some other advantage, but I already forget coz it's been long time ago).

Angle looks back is inspirated by a habit of a man when look at a woman, including my habit when I see that sexy body of women do not dare from the front, I do, so ... I really mean the body of a women are usually more visible when viewed from the back (hahaha, every man may ... have their own way so ....).

Headline: How slim are you? I created to challenge the women "how slim your body" when using the product.

In addition, this concept is also used for the event program with the theme "How slim are you" that the girl slim election held in the Atrium Senen, Central Jakarta. Participants must show slimness body through the "dance show" a significant drain energy.
